Grange Youth Fair

HOME

The Orangevale Grange # 354 supports the Youth of our Grange in northern and southern California. Many of our Youth participate in the Grange Youth Fair program.

The California Grange Youth Fair Program is unique among Grange programs nation-wide. The Grange Youth Fair Program allows young Grangers aged 5 through 19 the opportunity to show project animals, arts and crafts and industrial arts projects at their local county and district fairs as well as the California State Fair. The Grange youth compete for honors along side and on a level with 4-H and FFA members. As local fairs are governed by their own local rules in addition to the state rules, the ability of young people age 5 to 9 to compete is determined at the local level.

The Grange Youth Fair Program members voluntarily participate in a formal program designed to increase their confidence and strength of character. They are taught the importance of self-discipline while enjoying the fellowship of other young men and women. The program is successful only through the efforts and involvement of adult volunteer leaders.

To be eligible to show projects as a Grange Youth Fair Program participant in county, district or the California State Fair, an individual must be a member in good standing of either a Junior Grange or a Community Grange for at least six months prior to the opening day of the fair and attend a required number of meetings.

The Grange Youth Fair Program, in partnership with 4-H and FFA, have helped to develop a Code of Ethics whereby all participants agree that they will not allow unethical or inhumane treatment of animals nor will they tolerate any unsportsmanlike conduct among competitors.

The standard show uniform consists of blue jeans, a long sleeve white shirt and a Grange Youth Fair Team vest.
